On Monday we launched our camp closure refund scenario
-
We gave our customers the option to receive a full refund or credit for next year
-
1041 refund request forms were submitted
-
These represent multiple guests and weeks (1 per family)
-
We will be processing the refunds over the next 4 weeks
-
We recognize those refunds are cash relief for so many families in this time
-
Out of this correspondence with our customers, we’ve had an overwhelming response of thanks for our customer service
-
So many companies they’re being flooded with thousands of calls/emails etc.
-
Next time you’re doing a customer service call remember the people behind the phone
-
Be really proud of MW and the service we are offering
-
People have expressed thankfulness for MW’s integrity in this
-
We’ve instilled absolute confidence and trust (I-ACT) through our cancellation process

Last night Amber and I hopped on Instagram Live with Matt Hrybinsky
-
He has been building parts of camp out of his own imagination using Lego
-
I wanted to remind us as we continue to navigate this season that there are people like Matt who LOVE Muskoka Woods – staff, guests, parents etc.
-
You will hear later about some plans we’re working on to connect with summer staff
-
We’re processing it (the change) as we go
-
As an organization, we’re putting our time and energy into connecting with guests right now
-
We’re going to launch ‘Limited Edition: Muskoka Woods from home’ online events
-
This is exciting because it enables guests to engage with us from their homes
-
It will help us track who and how guests engage with us, which is very important for us as we continue investing in young people
-
We’re also looking at what the Fall looks like and what it looks like from a financial and business model to be open for schools and groups
-
Our senior team is taking a deep dive into our 3 year picture and will be meeting in June
-
Some of the questions we’re asking ourselves as we work through the short and long term plans are:
-
What are the things we can do to add value to the guest experience?
-
What are things we can do to make more money or save more money in our business?
-
I know there are questions about layoffs, we are asking for some patience as we work through what this looks like for you as employees and us as an organization
-
We’re weighing the impacts and working through the logistics
-
Hopefully, we can give you some answers around this in the coming weeks
-
Take this time to ask yourself the same questions as an individual that we are asking as an organization
-
Remember our commitment to you is to give you timely and accurate information
-
We want to respond to your questions with urgency but not haste
-
We’ve heard the feedback and questions you have and we will continue to keep you posted and communicate clearly with you
-
Thank you for your trust in us
John

Colin played “Pompeii” by Bastille during a brief break
-
I can’t help but reflect on my time with Lori in Pompei last year
-
I shared how this part of our trip was very profound for us last week with the senior team
-
Without over spiritualizing this I really think that song is timely
-
Don’t miss this time for reflection and renewal
-
We are being given something we will never get again
-
Building off what I said last week – the physical camp may not be running but the spiritual can
-
We are in the book of Nehemiah finishing off chapter 6 and moving into chapter 7
-
Every week I’ve read Nehemiah God has given me a word for this time
-
There is something prophetic about it
-
Last week I was exhausted and felt this deep darkness over the weekend
-
I spent the weekend in silence and felt the urge to come up north on Monday and as I was sitting at the traffic light on the 141 waiting for the green light I was listening to Psalm 4 and it brought me to tears because it was the same Psalm God gave me when I had a brain hemorrhage
-
God is not building a camp, He is building a community
-
As a community, we are being called to go deeper with Him
-
I want to remind us that God is giving us an opportunity to stop and listen to His voice
-
We have been given a word from God to call people home and we are receiving hundreds of messages from people who haven’t connected with us in years
-
I received a letter on Friday night with a request for “just a little visit to touch base with home”
-
I want to do what Chris said earlier – not acting in haste but being thoughtful
-
Use this time to reach out to people like your 121s
-
We will be renewed with/by God
-
I feel He is asking us to be righteous in this time
-
Be vigilant and exercise discretion – when we’re weary and tired temptation will be at our door
-
Righteousness is rooted in God who does the right thing, at the right time, all the time
-
In a year’s time, what kind of people will we be?
-
Please continue to pray for Chris, Lori and I
