- Alabama Bamford: Alabama is officially moving out today. We are so thankful for her hard work, the joy that she has brought to the kitchen, and for all the great food she cooked and how she cared for staff through that. Thanks to those who sent in words of encouragement to her. I've attached the Word Cloud for you to see. Please feel free to send her an email this week to say goodbye.
- Aaron Scheerer: We are happy to announce that Aaron Scheerer signed a full time contract with us. He's been doing a great job in the kitchen over these past few months and we are happy he's decided to stick around! Congrats Aaron!
- Sammy Rice: Sammy has unfortunately had to submit her resignation due to personal/family issues. We are sad to see her go, but understand that family comes first. Please pray for her and her family. Thanks for all you have done over the last few months Sammy!
- Teddy Brown: The Brown family has posted an update on Teddy. Please continue to pray for his little body, his family, and for Kevin and his wife as they support their son and family. Click HERE to read the update.
- Summer Staffing: Please pray for continued applications! Specifically for kitchen service staff. Miles needs more staff! So when you're talking to the 16 and 17 year olds in your life. Please encourage them to apply!
- Spring into Action: This coming Saturday we have some Alumni joining us here at camp to do some gardening and landscaping around camp. Scott and I will be leading the day and wanted to invite any of you to join us to help get the property ready for the summer. Lots needs to be done! It is a volunteer day and we don't have any extra accommodation available for people to stay over, but if any resort staff want to help out, even for a half day…or if you'd like to drive up for the day we will reimburse your gas. Please send Leslie an email if you're interested in helping.
- Summer Leadership has started! Everyone arrived last night and are spending the morning with John hearing about the vision and calling of MW. Please pray for them.
- There is someone at work who encourages my development

MWYF Update:
- It's an honour and privilege for me to witness what “Giving” looks like from a Foundation perspective. Even more inspiring to hear the feedback of lives changed because of all your hard work.
- Your work, everyone across the board, is the reason that lives are transformed, AND literally saved lives. I get to hear many stories as I work with people.
- Ben Flosman Story and the impact MW has had on him and his family. Loved how the MW Community came together to provide a life changing experience for this young man. He was a guest in, a CEO in 2019 and in 2021 and 2022 he was able to work for a month here at camp. Watch this video

- Lauren: Our engagement question of this month is: My supervisor, or someone at work, cares about me as a person.
- This summer Jamie and I are going to be putting together some full-time staff events to give us the opportunity to hang and get to know one another better so we can care for one another. Stay tuned!
Announcements:
- The last few weeks have been a busy time here at camp.
- We've hosted over 1000 kids over the last 3 weeks. Congrats to the Resort Team for all your hard work. And let me tell you…it rained all last week and the staff working outside just plowed through it. Which is amazing.
- And we have about 400 guests come through camp this week and another 175ish on the weekend.
- It's actually sunny today!
- Last week was Windsor. Cindy was here and went up to the Hanger for one of the masses and took a little video. I will share it today with the notes. But she said it was really cool to see a school group singing worship songs and it felt like just one of our big weekend retreats! As well, she spoke to one of the principals who said he loved working with the Catholic School board because it allowed him to introduce kids to Jesus.
Summer:
- The Summer Directors are arriving at camp today!!!
- The Summer team arrived yesterday and the Directors will arrive today. They will start to do some spiritual retreat and team bonding this week and a bunch of leadership training as they prepare to help lead this summer.
- Resort staff, they are staying in Rosewood, Hazelwood and Livery Stable, and will be eating together in the Underground and with the staff on the weekends.
HR Update:
- Last year at this time: 271 positions were filled and this year we are at 284 positions filled. Just over 80 more staff to hire.
- We have 19 offered contracts out
- At least 10 offered interviews
- Program: looking great!
- Exceptionalities
- 1 male WILD
- 1 male JH
- 2 female SH
- A&A
- Ropes is great
- Lifeguards is great
- Wakesports is great
- We finally hired the last Area Head
- Still looking for a variety of instructors including: Screen Printing, Basketball, Leisure sports, Sailing
- Hospo:
- All of the supervisor positions are full…which is great! We even have 2 in the kitchen which is always hard to find.
- Biggest area to recruit for: Maintenance, Housekeeping, Kitchen (all jobs) Please help us find 16 to 18 year olds to fill these positions. Anybody that is finishing up grade 10 this year and older.
- Support: Always an interesting area to fill
- HCC – student nurses
- Guest Relations – business or customer service
- Production
- Security – no one appropriate has applied
Last thing:
- We have cancelled Alpha for the rest of the spring and will pick it up again in the fall.
- We will continue with our prayer meetings throughout the rest of May, you are welcome to join.

Chris: Wrap up
- Amsterdam was great. Met up with John there at the – Christian Camping Global Leadership Conference
- I then joined a group of 25 Church leaders toured around some churches and ministries and Alpha initiatives and went to the Alpha Conference – 5000 people there.
- I want to let you know that we are well respected in ministry. We often downplay what we do, we were the only non church
- I was impacted by what God is doing in the lives of young people.
- Asked us to share what a major problem in our organization is. Before I would come to this, I would have defaulted to operational issues…and I came out of it saying “broken, hurting, struggling for community, looking for something solid to stand on as they head into their adult life”
- Incredible opportunity for us to introduce them to God's “dream” for their life as we talk about Dream Big.
- We offer something that is unique to young people.
- Colossians 1:19 from the Message: From beginning to end he’s there, towering far above everything, everyone. So spacious is he, so expansive, that everything of God finds its proper place in him without crowding. Not only that, but all the broken and dislocated pieces of the universe—people and things, animals and atoms—get properly fixed and fit together in vibrant harmonies, all because of his death, his blood that poured down from the cross.
- We know this is the young people that we serve. We know the stats on mental health are worsening amongst our young people.
- MindUp is a way that we can help to create a space for broken young people
- It's just a tool/curriculum to help young people to thrive emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually.
- How are we going to weave these things into camp? It has to start with us. How are the things being woven into the camp guest and employment experience?
- Brain breaks
- Gratitude
- Encouraging others
- How are you specifically weaving it into your routine? We need to get this into our schedules and into our routines.

- This month we are going to do some shout outs at the Huddle to encourage one another.
- Theresa encouraged Michi: You always smile and say hi and acknoweldge me when I come into the office. And I also appreciate how you care for Joel and have been so helpful to him.
- Lauren encouraged Zoe: She always tries to make things better. She asks why we do things we do in order to make things better for MW and for our guests.
- Also…thanks to everyone who has filled out references for the Jamie Groves Scholarship. And please continue to do so!
- Marc Cunningham encouraged Bryson: In my new role I have to work with Bryson a lot. He's quick at answering questions and gracious in helping me learn. Been a good friend over the last few years.
- Emily Groves encouraged Connor: Connor – you are so great at what you do. You are so quick to reply and jump into action and solve our IT issues. We appreciate all you do!
- Challenge for this week and into this month is to encourage those around you. Write a text, send an email, actually go TALK to someone and say thanks and encourage them in who they are and the impact they make on others, the team and Muskoka Woods.
HR Update: Recruitment
- We are offering a recruitment incentive for the month of April to all of our seasonal and full time staff. We still need to hire Spring Staff.
- The incentive is $50 for someone to complete an application and interview, and then another $200 if we hire someone and they come and work for spring.
- Please have them indicate they were referred by you in their application. And send Theresa an email when you know someone is applying.
- This needs to happen ASAP! Spring is 3 weeks away.
Wrap Up: John McAuley
- John and Lori will match the $250 with a donation in your name to the foundation.
- April is Growth Rings month. That is a great time to encourage one another.
- We tend to enter Easter carelessly here in the West.
- If you're in India right now, they are waiting for legislation to go through that you will go to jail if you speak about Jesus.
- We have freedom, which makes us nonchalant about Easter
- CCI Ukraine thought maybe 40 people would show up at their last conference. And instead over 500 people showed up.
- I'd encourage you to engage in Easter this week on a deeper level.

Summer Team Announcements – Kaj Wigston
- Summer Team will be hosting the Huddles.
- Movember is a month where men grow mustaches to raise awareness and funds for men's physical and mental health.
- I'm challenging myself to talk to three individual men to chat about how they are doing. I'd like to challenge you to do the same.
- I'd also like to encourage you to use your benefits. We have great benefits in areas like massage and counselling. Make sure you have some self care in place.
- Zoe O'Neill has joined the team. We're excited for her to be overseeing Exceptionalities as well as the CEO Program.
- Ministry Update:
- We have bible studies running across Ontario, BC and even Northern Ireland!
- We have a lot of great leaders that have stepped up and are hosting and leading the studies. It's a great way for MW to support the staff year round in their spiritual growth as well as stay connected. It's great for recruitment as well.
- Please join me in praying for the groups.
HR Announcements: Leslie Brushett
- This week is our Summer job launch! Soft launch is Wednesday but the actual promotion and recruitment initiatives will be on Friday, November 18th.
- We launch Spring 2023, Summer 2023, Fall 2023 and Winter/Spring 2024 jobs. We post a year's worth of jobs so that when people go to the site they can see that working here for a whole year is an option for them.
- The HR team has worked really hard to get everything ready, from job descriptions, to CTree, to recruitment emails and everything in between. Thank you.
- Please pray that we get a lot of applications for next year!
- We are also hiring for the Winter season. We are doing pretty well for host instructors, but are still needing kitchen service staff, maintenance staff and ropes.
- We also have posted the Assistant Dining Room Manager position.
- This year's Annual Retreat. Only 3 weeks away!
- Guelph – from Dec 5th to the 7th. Arrival is at 11:30am and we will end with having lunch together on Wednesday.
- If you could please email Diane any special diet needs you have so we can pass that along to Guelph.
- Staff Awards – please nominate your peers. Click HERE to nominate someone deserving at MW. Please make sure you write down why you are nominating them.
- For the employee of the year, please email Chris Tompkins with your reasons why.
- We have decided this year we are going to be buying gifts for teens in Bracebridge through the Salvation army. We are asking each of us to donate $20 towards a gift and then MW will match that donation. You will be put in groups of 5 to go shopping together and so you will have $200 to spend on a gift.
- We will be hosting the Grammy's this year at the Retreat. We are asking that you either come dressed up like you are going to an awards banquet OR you can come dressed as your favourite musical artist. Feel free to coordinate with your friends. We are also looking for some karaoke lovers who would be willing to participate in the event itself. The Bit Boys that will be hosting the evening for us. Please email Leslie if you're willing to help make the Grammy's a success.

- Live Different offered us a free planning retreat at the Dominican. Our SLT retreat is going to the DR to do our 2024 Planning Retreat this week. We have to have all the details for 2024 by April of 2023…so we need to do advanced planning in order to be ready.
- While we are gone, John is overall in charge in Chris's absence. You can email him or text/call him. You can also email Christina to be in touch with him
- Bob will be in charge of Operations. Hannah is in charge this week of Program and Steph is in charge on the weekend.

Schools and Groups Update: Lucas Durocher
- Windsor is here. Great to have them back.
- They had a tough go with arrivals. Many of their buses didn't show up on time and so made them all late. One school didn't even get to come. They showed up over the course of the afternoon instead of arriving before lunch.
- The energy of the kids and staff was still great!
- It's been cold and rainy…so hard on the staff. Please pray for them.
Update from John McAuley
- Lucas…how did you do in the Marathon? “Met his goal of under 4 hours”.
- I ended up getting sick in Paris.
- What happens to us when we experience disappointment?
- CCI members were here yesterday. Sergei from Ukraine is here. His life has been turned completely upside down. Pastors are being murdered.
- I ask myself “what the heck am I dealing with compared to that?”
- How do I shift my disappointment to gratitude rather than compare my circumstances to what I want?
- Had a tour with some Military people looking to do a program for 100 Jr. Rangers. Loved this place.
- Reading a book called Seeing God's Face. It's a daily scripture reading. I will be sending a survey out to see if you'd like to do this in 2023.
- 2023 is Dream Big!

- When I reflect on when I start well and then tank is when I worry. Which means I don't trust God.

- In your small groups read the passage. Do a lectio divina together and just talk about what stands out to you from the passage and how it relates to when we start well and then tank.

Organizational Announcements – Chris Tompkins
- We have made a connection with a guest parent who works with Simcoe Muskoka Health Unit
- He's been asked to personally review the Camp Guidance
- He called me to ask if we have anything we want to make sure is on the agenda
- I got to speak into the actual conversation that is happening on the provincial level
- Called me with an update after and some insight into the conversation
- Forwarded his own notes to me
- Can't believe how God has gifted us with insight and relationships
- It's a reminder to me how God continues to show us that He's here and is in control
- He hasn't abandoned us, He is working on our behalf, He is with us. Be encouraged by that.
- He told me there is a massive appetite to open up and get back to normal.
- The OCA won't review until Easter is a good sign…it's leaving space to ensure we are the most up to date and that we're on the trajectory for a much more normal life and experience at camp this summer.
- We are now open
- Small adult groups in winter and early spring
- Still unsure what May and June look like. We will keep you updated.
- We continue to work towards a full summer and are hoping to open up to 100% capacity soon.
- We are requiring everyone to update their Health and Safety Courses. HR will be in touch.
- We are also requiring everyone to update their police checks. It will be online through Plan to Protect. HR will be in touch.
- Those in the leadership training group, there is some homework to do. Please look for the email from me on that and get that completed in a timely manner.

- Last week we talked about focus – our IGP's and getting focused for this year
- This week we have a “fysical” challenge for all of us! Get outside and send in a picture of your winter fun! We'll be sharing them at the end of January!
- Not sure what to do this winter? Snow problem! Get outside and have fun! Take a walk, make a snow angel, ski and snowboard – there are so many fun things to make the most of winter!

Wrap-Up/Organizational Announcements

- The Toronto office has officially been sold, our closing today is today!
- Our time at 20 Bamburgh CIrcle has officially come to a close
- Our plan to gather when permitted has been paused temporarily during this shut-down, we're now looking for something that is more of a permanent solution.
- There will be instructions coming out from Sam this week to update all of signatures to the resort address
- All mail will now be forwarded up north – make sure that any mail you regularly receive, that you reach out to update our company address
- Winter S&G update – we have changed our focus for this winter as we are not anticipating any school business. We have decided to utilize our staff in new ways this season and have reassigned them to the kitchen and maintenance. We will be hosting some small adult groups.
- We will then reassess what our Spring season will look like as we approach April
- A few important dates to note: Arboretum – March 7th & 8th, we are planning for that to be in-person at the resort. Please mark this in your calendar.
- Please be cautious and diligent regarding our covid protocols at the resort – monitor your symptoms and stay at home if you develop them. Thank you!
- Put some things into your personal calendar this winter to look forward and get excited about. Let's celebrate what brings us joy this season!

- Good morning. Good to see you. I hope everyone had a nice Christmas break
- After gathering some feedback from you last fall I have put a plan together for this year that has each month of this year themed and being championed by a department.
- You will find out soon what month your department is assigned to.
- There is also a series of Lunch n Learns scheduled at the end of each month…so stay tuned for more information on those. I have put them in the corporate calendar already for the last Friday of each month.
January…as you saw from the slide when logging on, is being hosted by HR and our theme is “there's SNOW one like you…in 2022! And we have 4 things we are going to champion this month
- Focus – today
- Physical – Theresa will host and have a physical challenge for us
- Fun – Diane will host and have a fun challenge for us
- Financial – Jamie will wrap up and there is also a Financial Planning lunch n learn scheduled with Pauline Peneycad on Friday, January 28th
FOCUS:
- We all know that many people make New Year's resolutions in January.
- We even have worked into our corporate calendar with our annual meetings.
- It is also part of our Growth Rings.
- The first part of the Growth Rings booklets is around our CORE Leaves
- Our core leaves are a set of values and/or behaviours that we ultimately require our staff to engage in order to make the MW experience what it is.
- The first part is a mandatory part of the Growth Rings…asking yourself how are you going to lean in and engage more with 2 if the 6 core leaves. What is your focus this year going to be as a MW employee?
- Then there is the IGP's. This year we are not making the IGP's mandatory…but it is there as a tool in a couple of ways:
- If you choose to make Intentional Growth one of your core leaves
- You can decide to maybe just do one of the character, competence or cadence columns to challenge yourself and be more intentional
- Maybe there is a column on there that is going to support one of your core leaf goals. For example…maybe Tenacious Follow thru is your core leaf goal…and then you fill out the Competence column because you want to learn more about some kind of project software that will help you stay on track and get things done.
- Or…you can do the whole thing!
- So again…Core leaves are mandatory,,,IGP is a tool to support your growth.
- As we head into this new year, what are you going to focus on this year? How are you going to intentionally challenge yourself to grow and learn and become more of who God wants you to be.
- Because “There is SNOW one like you!

- It's very possible to look at the same thing, know what you're looking at, trying to find the thing you're looking for – then someone comes in and looks at it and points out.
- It takes someone with a different history, a different perspective to come in and see what it is you've been looking for – what has been right in front of us.
- Who do we have accompanying us on this journey to help us see the missing piece? One of the greatest gifts God gives us is the people who accompany us on the journey.

- The gift of people being sent to us – we're so thankful for all of you who have been sent by God to us and continued to journey with us over this past year
- 2963 summer guests registered
- 303 kids on the waitlist
- Weeks 1,2,3,4,6 are almost or sold out for most age groups
- 43 CEO applications and 13 auto-accepts from last year – We have extended the deadline for CEO applications to Tuesday, January 11th
- Technology and people announcement– Jennifer Taylor is moving into the role of Business Analyst. She will be reporting to Catherine Kennedy, our Senior Business Analyst. This will help us expand our technology and customer service support, then with Jenn's GR experience she will be able to support that team during our busy seasons in the summer.
Organizational Announcements: Chris Tompkins
- Toronto office move is coming to a close
- Today the maintenance and IT staff are in the TO office moving. Closing mid month
- There is a lot of history in that building. It is a place of great memories.
- We moved in there in 1990.
- That building has lived through so many decisions, interviews, meetings and history.
- It's more than just selling a building. This pandemic has caused a lot of change for MW. It's an emotional time.
- Thank you for all the hard work people have put into the move.
Schools and Groups
- We are unable to operate until January 26th.
- Many groups have either cancelled or we have had to cancel them.
- We are unsure what the winter will continue to look like.

- Retreat update
- We are not going to gather together as an entire group
- While this is not how we intended the retreat, we still want to wrap-up the year in a way that is celebratory and respectful to everyone in our organization – we're going to respond and adapt appropriately!
- Monday, at 1:00pm: we're all going to meet on zoom where John & CT are going to wrap up the year – State of the Forest & Celebrate
- Monday at 3:30pm: Resort staff will be gathering and going on the hike we had planned for the retreat. Then, stay for a Christmas dinner celebration together.
- Tuesday (info to follow): Toronto staff will be meeting in Aurora for a tailgate and hike at Eldred King Woodlands
- In both scenarios we're going to continue to do white elephant – re-use, re-imagine (?) & recycle – and have some fun!
- These gatherings are still mandatory
- We're going to continue to meet in different contexts as we enter the new year
- Monday is a regular work day for TO staff & Tuesday is a regular workday for Resort staff
